One of the reasons that people fail in strength training, gaining muscle, and losing fat is because their training priorities are misaligned. Basically they're putting the cart before the horse and not building the base of strength and work capacity that they need to. Instead they focus on "finishing movements" like advanced agility drills, isolation muscle building exercises, and the like. Without a strong base, these training methods just aren't very effective.
